Development of human resource is the main function of education. Therefore every educational institution should aim at developing the human soul in such a way that he is mentally shaped to fit into the society to which he also belongs and will continue to live in. change is essential for a successful living in the society and education has to serve as a tool for this change.
NSS has been functioning in the realm of higher education since last four decades. The overall objective of NSS is educational and service to the community through different activities. Therefore the principal aim of NSS is education and the methodology adopted for imparting education is social word.
National Service Scheme is a student – centered programme and it is complementary to education. It is a noble experiment in academic extension. It inculcates the spirit of voluntary work among students and teachers through sustained community interaction. It brings our academic institutions closer to the society. It is a link between the campus and community, the college and village, knowledge and action. The overall aim of NSS is the Personality Development of students through community service. It gives an extension dimension to Higher Education system and orients the student youth to community service.
National Service Scheme, popularly known as NSS, was formally launched on 24th September, 1969, the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation. September 24 is observed as the NSS day every year.
NSS activities have been divided into two groups, regular activity and special camping programme. under regular activity volunteers undertake various activities in participating village, campus and orientation. Duration of this service is 120 hours.
The motto of the NSS is “NOT ME BUT YOU”. This reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other person’s point of view and also to show consideration for fellow human beings.
The NSS symbol is based on the rath wheel of the Konark Sun Temple situated in Oddisia. These giant wheels of the Sun Temple portray the cycle of creation, preservation and release, and signify the movement in life across time and space

The NSS Unit No 163 is under Technical Cell. During the academic year the volunteers involved in different regular activities, which include observance of various days like environment day, Independence Day, teacher’s day, national blood donation day, October 2, world AIDS day etc, campus work on beautification, plastic collection, hostel cleaning and community work mainly focused on plastic collection.
During this year the seven day Special Camp was conducted at GLP School Mythani Udinur.
